'Smart Home' built to meet needs of wounded soldier
A retired Special Forces soldier who lost an arm and both legs in Afghanistan four years ago has received a new home outfitted to accommodate his special needs.


Master Sgt. John Masson and his wife, Dustina, along with their three children, moved into their smart home in Southern Pines earlier this month. The home was built by people from a variety of organizations.
"My family and I are eternally grateful to everyone who played a part in the building of our new smart home," Masson said in a news release.


Masson lost an arm and both legs when he stepped on an improvised explosive device in 2010.
The home was built with his needs in mind, officials said.
It has retractable cabinets and shelving, automated lighting and security systems, and transfer benches.
"John Masson is a great soldier and a great American who simply wanted to serve his country and has sacrificed greatly in his services," actor and activist Gary Sinise said in a release. He is founder of the Gary Sinise Foundation that made donations to the project.
Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band played a benefit concert at Festival Park last year in Fayetteville to help raise money for the project.
Masson served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
He has served with the Indiana Army National Guard, Ohio Army National Guard and the 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne).
Masson was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

What Consumers want is smart homes

Home owners are showing a bigger appetite for smart home technology. Nearly half of consumers — 46 percent — say it’s important their current home or the next home they purchase have smart home technology, according to a survey conducted by ERA Real Estate and HGTV of nearly 2,500 consumers who recently participated in an HGTV national focus group on smart home technology. 

Home owners and buyers say they see the value in smart home technology for comfort, safety, and cost savings, and 51 percent surveyed say they would consider installing smart home technology in their home to make their home more marketable to future home buyers. 

The younger segment of the millennial generation is the most likely age group to spend money on smart home technology — 10 times more likely than the percentage of generation X members who say they’d consider adding smart home technology to their homes, the survey reported. 

“While still a growing trend, smart home enhancements have the potential to increase savings, safety, and resale value,” says Charlie Young, president and CEO of ERA Real Estate. “As we have seen through this survey and our one-on-one interactions with buyers and sellers, a smart home is one that is well positioned for the future and aligns with a growing reliance on mobile technology.” 

Indeed, 70 percent of millennials say it’s important that smart home technology integrate with their smartphone. 

While smart home technology has often been thought to be driven by mainly security, survey researchers did not find security as the main motivation for adding smart home technology. 

Instead, home owners say they’re using or wanting smart home technology mainly because of the money-saving potential, such as through automated climate control, energy management, remote home monitoring, and lighting control systems. What’s more, consumers of all generations said they’d automate their thermostats before their lighting or security systems, and one in 10 Americans say they’d automate their TV over their lighting or security systems.

Zigbee Technology-Energy savings won’t cover cost of new smart homes

Contrary to what some ads say, saving money on your energy bills is not the reason to replace your smart homes. Please vist: www.wulian.cc/english
That’s because it could take decades to recoup the $8,000 to $24,000 you’ll spend on new smart homes and installation.
Energy Star-qualified smart homes can lower your energy bills by 7 to 15 percent. That’s only about $27 to $111 per year for a 2,000-square-foot, single-story home with storm or double-pane smart homes, or $126 to $465 if that home has just single-pane smart homes.
So why bother? New smart homes can make your home quieter, more attractive and less drafty, and they don’t need painting. They’re also easier to clean than old smart homes with combination storm and screens and can reduce your carbon footprint.
Consider these five shopping tips:
1. How much needs to be replaced? If the existing frames and sills are still sound and square, you can use partial (pocket) replacement units. These fully assembled units slip into the existing frames, saving you money on materials and labor.
But if your frame or sill is rotted, you’ll need full-replacement smart homes, which include the frame, sill, jambs and generally a nailing flange that attaches the smart home to the outside wall around the opening.
2. Pick a smart home type. The style of your house and the existing smart homes may help you decide.
Andersen’s online style library for homes shows bungalows, ranches and seven other house styles, as well as the type of smart homes often used for each. The library has great tips on trim color and hardware.
Consumer Reports tested two of the most common types, double-hungs and casements. You can change between types, as long as the size is available. On double-hungs, the lower inside sash slides up and an upper outside sash slides down, improving air circulation and making full screens ideal. 3. Pick a frame material. Consumer Reports’ tests found that there are excellent and mediocre double-hung smart homes regardless of the frame material, except for fiberglass. Wood frames tend to be the most expensive. All are usually clad in vinyl, aluminum or fiberglass on the exterior to protect the wood and eliminate painting.
Fiberglass-framed smart homes don’t need to be painted. Vinyl frames are usually the least expensive, but aren’t as attractive. They don’t need to be painted or stained, though colors are limited and can’t be changed. Among casements, there was little difference between vinyl and wood frames.
4. Don’t rely on a contractor to choose. With all the decisions, it’s tempting to let the pro decide. But given the cost of new smart homes, the more you know about them, the better.
Scour manufacturer websites for ideas. Pella’s online design tool lets you pick a smart home type and then play with details such as finish colors, hardware style and even wall hues. Go to stores to see the smart homes, inspect the frames and try the handles.
5. Shop around. Prices can vary among dealers with the same smart homes. You might get a better deal in their offseason, usually late fall or winter.

Recently there are some untrue and ill reports about “Nanjing IOT Sensor Technology Co., Ltd." (hereinafter referred to as "Wulian Group") over internet .The content of those reports is far away from the true facts, which not only also fooled many common people with lies , but also has maken the bad effect to WULIAN GROUP. “We take this problem very serious and must fight with irresponsible report. We should let the public know the truth”, released from the Wulian Group department.
As to the public email words from zigbee Alliance regarding to the Wulian group, There are many points which are absolute wrong or different from the facts.
Wulian has enough evidences to show the public that the words are absolute wrong or different from the facts, and those evidences includes the photos, the new reports of the third party of history, the government files.

Firstly, Wulian Group has never publicized that Wulian Group's products have been certified by ZigBee Alliance.

Someone with ill will made the maliciously false online, in which they claimed that’ Wulian Group publicized that Wulian Group's products have been certified by ZigBee Alliance.’. The purpose of rumors is very clear that they just want to frame WULIAN and disrupt the brand of WULIAN smart home. As we know, the zigbee protocol is public and free to be used like Android in phone. In the Mind of Wulian, there is no better certification than the good experience from our customers, and we are always seeking for the stable network, reliable transmission of wireless data and satisfying the demand of all the clients. All the goods of WULIAN products conformed the national and industry standard within the law regulation. Now the smart home product is very hot in the global market with 1500 above dealers.

If someone have the purpose that all the good of WULIAN smart home must be certified by ZigBee Alliance, this view is extremely ridiculous and irresponsible and it’s ‘gangster logic. In other words ,the events show us that Zigbee Alliance wants to become the only one judge to  determin any zigbee technology company's destiny,  to decide you can enter the zigbee products market or not. This is absolutely against the basic business competition rules. Zigbee Alliance wants hold his title and this event against any zigbee enterprises to enter the market without its approval.  So all of the Smart home companies should join up, to against the monopoly of Zigbee Alliance. No one business Alliance has the right to interfere with products publication of other companies in the history, rather than a business organization out of China.
Secondly, hard evidences to show  ZigBee Alliance China Regional Headquarters" in Wulian Group 

ZigBee Alliance established its "ZigBee Alliance China Regional Headquarters" in Wulian Group's Shanghai office in 2012. Shanghai government officer  and Mr. Bob Heile, the former chairman of Zigbee Alliance, attended the opening ceremony of ZigBee Alliance China Regional Headquarters. And many Medias reported this event at that time with photos and passage (website:http://www.qianjia.com/html/2012-12/19_173214.html).

Since then Wulian group has made a lot of hard work to promote zigbee technology while developing the smart home market in China. But someone become envious and even denigrate WULIAN group when they found WULIAN GROUP develop the smart home market successfully and  its products are very hot in China and oversea. So Zigbee Alliance try to disrubte the WULIAN group’s reputation via such an email with simulated fact and lies, rather, this event makes Zigbee Alliance lost all of its credibility.

Thirdly, Wulian Group is the legal holder of the "ZigBee" trademark of most electrics and computer accessories recognized by (CTMO)

The fact needs the evidence rather than listening the words of ZIGBEE ALLIANCE. WULIAN GROUP holds trademark of “ZIGBEE" in most of the electrical fields in China, especially some important one related with smart home such as Class 7，9，11，14，37 , by contrast, Zigbee Alliance only hold some trademark of “ZIGBEE" far away from the smart home such as class 6,8. And maybe this is the root cause of the public email from Tobin J. M. Richardson, chairman of zigbee Alliance. And it’s obvious that Zigbee Alliance wants to force WULIAN GROUP to give up the zigbee trademark in this way. Now WULIAN GROUP holds the trademark of “ZIGBEE" ,and that is as it should be, and it can launch any relative product with zigbee  trademark in China, rather than using the trademark of zigbee on its products.

WULIAN GROUP just wants to tell the truth of the fact with evidences as one common Chinese company here. Anyone can check the ownership of zigbee trademark in the website of Chinese Trademark Office (CTMO), just input the words of” zigbee”, and then everything is clear.

WULIAN GROUP has set up a panel of observers to make the investigation of any false reports with ill will related WULIAN .and the company will keep the right of law to fight back any rumor mongers.

Hope every media and person not to forward any words without evidence.
