Is Gesture control really practical?

09:23 Unknown
In January 2014, because one piece of news NEST became the star of the smart home industry overnight. Reported that "Google announced that they had reached purchase agreement with smart home company Nest Labs, which was founded by " the father of the iPod "Tony Dell, all assets of NSET would be purchased by $3.2 billion in cash, predict that the deal will be completed within a few months ".

In May 2014, NEST come into the spotlight again since another news, but this time NEST has gone visibly, shed star aura, more like a "literary youth" with mistakes. "Because of the product bugs, has certain potential risks, may lead to no alarm when emergency appears or inadvertently closed, Nest company announced would recall 440,000 problems smoke detectors which have been sold out - Protect smoke".

What we have to admit is, the smoke detectors recalled by NEST, with exquisite industrial design and attractive appearance, and through the sound and the color change of the ring to remind the user that the level change of indoor CO, so user can check if there is emergency, if not, you can just wave hand to turn off the alarm or by pressing the middle button. To sum up, no matter on appearance and function, especially the new function of waving gesture for alarm off, are awesome.

Just like Apple, their innovation on smart aspect is undoubtedly. But the bugs is also  produced from the intelligent innovation. In the original Settings of Smoke detector alarm, no such function of waving gesture to turn off alarm, there will not be a case of alarm omission and closed without intention, the new function was designed to avoid the trouble of shuting down alarm, outsmart oneself instead, intelligent alarm "degradation", left the security seed, and grow up with "recalling consequences".
The Wireless Smoke(fire) detectors (WL - FD - A) produced by Wulian. Based on its advantages in the field of Zigbee technology, complete product line, and powerful software function, becoming the global leader in smart home industry. The smoke detectors, as a member of the intelligent household product line. Compared with the traditional smoke(fire) detector, its appearance is concise and fashionable, don’t need to be installed with wire, concise and convenient. In addition, because the detector can be connected to the Internet of things, so it can send message with voice alarm to smart mobile terminals once the abnormal situation appeared.

NEST Recalled Smoke Detector – Can Foreign “Smart Home”Monks Chant?

09:15 Unknown

NEST became the star in home automation field this January. Google declared that they have taken over Nest Labs (referred to as' NEST ') founded by the father of the iPod – Toni with $3.2 billion, which is expected to be completed in a few months.

In May of 2014, NEST became the focus of attention for another incident, but the NEST is not a super star any more, more like "a literary youth" who has made mistakes. Due to there is something wrong with the process of the products which may result in the products’ failure to trigger an alarm or shut it down in case of emergency. Therefore, Nest recalled 440 thousand smoke detectors -- Protect smoke.

From January to May, NEST has created the second largest acquisition in Google history next to the acquisition of Motorola, which also opened the first "recall door" in home automation history. Protect Smoke, the pursued star since it came into being, exposes its own problems and take the initiative to recall, which indeed shocked many people. It is just about 10 days after its products criticized as“unnecessary products”by an USA magazine - Consumer Reports. That’s really what we say “misfortune never comes alone”.

We have to say that the recalled NEST smoke detector is exquisite in design and appearance. It can remind users the change of CO through the change of voice and colors, so users can check whether there is an emergency. If not, users can turn it off by waving his hands or clicking the off button. In short, with a view to the appearance and function, especially the new added waving gesture to turn off the alarm function, the smoke detector in China cannot exceed it, so we may say foreign “smart home” monks can chant.

There is no doubt that the Innovation of NEST in intelligent aspects is in one continuous line with the Apple Corp. However, this process bug appeared in the intelligent innovation. The original alarm setting of the smoke detector does not include the function of waving gesture to turn off the alarm, and will not miss the alarm or turn off incidentally. The new version is aimed at avoiding the trouble of turning off the alarm. But, it makes things worse. The alarm function changed from intelligentization to "degradation", which finally cause the recall.

Compared with the recall by Toyota in 2009 from its scope and influence, this "Recall Door" may not a big deal. Besides, NEST has prepared two solving ways for smoke detector users: full refund or repair or upgraded repair through the firmware of wireless network. And the smoke detector will go back to the market in several weeks. However, the mysterious "foreign monk" also goes wrong when he chants. Perhaps, foreign monks chant better in some field, but that does not mean in the field of home automation. By comparison, the wireless smoke sensor made by Nanjing IOT Sensor Technology Co., Ltd with the same function, has withstood the challenges.

Of course, in the field of home automation, "foreign monks" who cannot stand up with the test is not just NEST. According to the feedbacks of  IOActive Institute, an USA safety inspection company, hackers can easily bypass Belkin’s password and encryption check which is based on WIFI technology, and sign the malicious firmware camouflaged in the product, so they can easily control other people's smart home devices, including remote control socket, lamp switch and motion sensors, etc.

'Smart Homes' Could Be Hacked If Not Choose Wisely:
Do you want your house to be haunted by a complete stranger?

“I can see all of the devices in your home and I think I can control them,” a complete stranger said to Thomas Hatley who lives in Oregon and had been awoken with an early phone call on a Thursday morning.

He and his wife were still in bed. Expressing surprise, he asked this stranger to try to turn the master bedroom lights on and off. Seconds later, not only lights, but also television came on. “I’ll be darned”, Mr. Hatley said in the phone.

This is not a fabricated story, but a true report on Forbes Tech.

The home automation market was worth $1.5 billion in 2012 according to Reuters; there’s been an explosion in products that promise to make our homes “smarter.” Many of these products have smart phone apps and Web portals that let users operate devices, cameras, and locks from afar. The function sounds really amazing, and so many people embrace this new lifestyle without thorough consideration and cautious selection. Here’s problem: as we bring the things in our homes onto the Internet, we run into the same kind of security concerns we have for any connected device: they could get hacked!

To prevent being hacked, you need to pay attention to more than function. All functions provided by different brands are similar, remote monitor, remote control and automation. However, technologies of networking behind functions are so much distinct. It could be as simple as Bluetooth, radio frequency and Wi-Fi, or be more advanced one such as Zwave and ZigBee.

Contrary to lots of smart home brands who were exposed to have hacking problem, Wulian receives zero report of hacking issue. From the very beginning, Wulian sets network safety as its priority. Smart home function only makes sense after safety is guaranteed. Otherwise, how could people feel relieved to let an automation system take over their houses?

Googling a very simple phrase led me to a list of “smart homes” that had done something rather stupid. The homes all have an automation system from Insteon that allows remote control of their lights, hot tubs, fans, televisions, water pumps, garage doors, cameras, and other devices, so that their owners can turn these things on and off with a smart phone app or via the Web. The dumb thing? Their systems had been made crawl-able by search engines – meaning they show up in search results — and due to Insteon not requiring user names and passwords by default in a now-discontinued product, a stranger was able to click on the links, giving me the ability to turn these people’s homes into haunted houses, energy-consumption nightmares, or even robbery targets. Opening a garage door could make a house ripe for actual physical intrusion.

The ZigBee technology is a perfectly suitable choice for developing smart home. Its strict encryption is born for resisting hacking. Wulian is an advanced member of ZigBee Global Alliance and participates in the establishment of home automation industry standard. From network reliability to the safety of user data on server, Wulian has all considered thoughtfully.

Wulian Automation Make Home Security and Remote Surveillance

High crime rates all around the word  mean many homes already have alarms and various surveillance options installed. But, unless you’ve got these systems integrated into a Wulian home automation solution.
The most desired superpower identified in a recent online survey was the ability to see what’s going on in another location, without one actually having to be there. Incredibly, thanks to Wulian, which is installed in the global exclusively by Home automation, now you can!
Wulian home automation is awesome in that you can add an email or SMS notification every time the flap opens or closes – or any door or window in your home for that matter!

Another way of keeping tabs on who’s at home would be to install motion sensors in strategic locations. Instead of watching rooms, an alternative alert mechanism is to place sensors on or near your valuables that will warn you the second they move…not bad for keeping even family members out of your things!
